Couple questions...ground strap and fuel hose
Hi everyone,
Got a couple of questions about different things. First, I have this ground strap on the driver side, around the power steering reservoir and hoses that was just kind of hanging there. I have a picture attached where I pulled it up. Where is this supposed to be threaded around so it's not hanging or making contact with the steering shaft?
Second, I noticed a badly deteriorating piece of fuel line hose under the car by the fuel filter. I replaced that with new fuel hose...but I see there is another similar piece (also deteriorating) under the hood (pic attached). Seems to be two different diameters on that fuel hose. Same diameter as the piece I replaced under the car on one end, but it reduces in size on the other end of the piece. Has anyone seen a reducing diameter rubber fuel hose anywhere?

Yeah, both ends of the ground strap are attached correctly, but it's just hanging there. Seems like it should be threaded through something or placed in a way it's not dangling or going against the steering parts.

I think maybe yours has been replaced. I am not used to seeing them that large or long or rusty. Maybe is just the picture. All that matter is that both ends are connected. a larger strap will not hurt anything, ground wires touching metal is not a problem.
The only worry would be the ground strap is not wear thru the new power steering hose. It might be worth it to just push it under that hose and check to see if its hanging too low, if so just wire tie it to something it can not wear thru.
Out of curiosity I check my low miles 2000 and my 1993 and both have a shorter, smaller strap.
I would check the HELP section at the parts store. If you have no luck there then find a real parts store that mechanics use they can make up just about any vacuum or fuel line. (like a full service Napa store)

the fuel line is plastic till it gets just under the driver area then changes to steel. return line is the smaller of the two. third line is plastic as well and is for the evap system (gas tank vent) and if memory serves is smaller than the return line. cant remember is return line is plastic all the way back.
Thanks for the information. Regarding the ground strap, I guess I'll look at some 3.4s while I'm at the salvage yard and see if the ground strap there is shorter than mine and where it goes. I haven't found any good pictures of that engine area, so I don't know where the strap should actually be placed.
So it's the plastic gas tank vent line then. That line is about 5/16" coming in, but the fitting it attaches to is smaller. So the piece of fuel hose is different diameters on each end. I'll see if I can find some kind of 5/16" to 1/4" fuel hose. A piece of 5/16" only is too loose fitting.
