Out of 38 years of driving, I have used the "heater core as a crutch" method once before, but that's only a "till you get it home" fix so you can take care of your cooling problem. A proper working cooling system doesn't need the heater core to keep up. And bypassing doesn't require one to remove the old core, you just loop the heater hoses together. Again, don't want to do it if you need the heat. I compare replacing a heater core that won't get used to buying and storing a 33" tall spare tire in the back of your Camaro. You spent money on it just to have it, but will never use it.

Yeah I live in nj and its cold as he11 so I'm just going to replace it. My dads friend has done it before and he told me how to do it so I should be fine. Thanks for your suggestions.

Got it done today. Wasn't to bad. Worst part is working in such tight spaces.
