Coolant question
As we all know winter is coming up soon and if you live in a state like Minnesota you might be thinking about storing your car, like me. One thing i know to check is the freeze protection for the coolant. I just checked mine and its good for about positive 5 degrees Fahrenheit. but it gets much colder here so I need to do something about that so I have some questions. 1. how should I drain? It has green coolant so that is what ill be using and it looks clean. So should I just drain the radiator and refill it with new stuff? I don't know if that will keep the block from freezing or not (BTW, its a 1998 LS1). and if I drain the radiator should I use the drain valve or disconnect the lower hose? what gets more out? That's about everything for now, so thanks for the responses in advance.
Shoebox is a good website. If you really wanna get through with it, drain coolant from the drain **** on the radiator, pull all the hoses, pull the knock sensor and the temp sensor on the head, that should get most if not all out.
Personally, I'd drain as much as I can out. It's not going to hurt anything and new antifreeze/coolant isn't a bad thing either. If a little bit stays in it's not a big deal. The new stuff will dilute the old.
