Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't most ATF about 10w?

Just making sure I don't recommend it to someone else if it's the wrong oil

I don't actually know, but you could be right about it being the same weight. The 2002 service manual recommends ATF, but the TSB changed that recommendation to a straight 10W oil. I always wondered if it could have been because of how the ATF affected the seals of the cylinders and pump. I thought I saved a copy of the TSB, but haven't been able to find it. If I do come across it, I will post it.

I found this on another site that Libertyforall1776 posted. I believe this is the TSB I was referring to.

Service VME - Convertible Top Hydraulic Fluid #PI00386 - (Aug 14, 2002)

Service VME -- Convertible Top Hydraulic Fluid
.

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

SERVICE VME

This is a service VME to all Chevrolet and Pontiac dealerships regarding 1994 through 2002 Camaro and Firebird convertible top hydraulic fluid. This is Art Spong, Brand Quality Manager for the F-cars. The service manual and ESI incorrectly advise to use DEXRON® III automatic transmission fluid for the hydraulic fluid in the convertible top system. The proper fluid is a ten-weight SAE oil. A bulletin will be issued and ESI will also be corrected. Thanks. If there are any questions, I can be reached at 586-947-8890.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.

NO, do not use regular oil!!! Take note and read that TSB again, it's referring to 10w HYDRAULIC oil, NOT MOTOR OIL. Motor oil is NOT a hydraulic fluid.

I just bought a 2000 SS convertible. There 2 latches above the windshield. Other than unlatching them is there anything else I need to do to put the top down?

This is from the 2000 Camaro Owners Manual operating instructions;

You can download a copy of this manual at this link. https://www.chevy-camaro.com/faq/dow...2000camaro.pdf
