Sorry man but there is no AWD none turbo dsm's. The only two that are awd are the GSX and the awd TSI both are the turbo 4g63. In the first gen pre 95 they did make a 4g63 none turbo but it is only FWD. A turbo talon is fun in the winter but they are prone to normal DSM problems. The first gens have the least of the isues but still not the best luck. The second gen came with the 420a2.0 none turbo neon based engineand the 4g63 turbo 7 bolt more prone to crank walk then the 6 and 5 bolt of the first gen. The second gen also comes with a smaller turbo. The 1.8 SOHC is a great long running engine if you can find one that hasnt had the hell ran out of it but onlycomes with a FWD trany and lacks power.

I used to have an American winter vehicle when I had my 78 Z28. It was a 2001 Dodge Ram, 4 inch lift, BF All Terrain KO's. God I loved that truck, until the entire drive train started to go to ****. Honestly, what is it with Dodge? They know how to make one hell of an engine and a great looking vehicle but seemed to have the cheapest goddamn axles, transmissions, etc.

I'm voting for any of the 4-cyl Jap trucks, although I'm partial to Toyota. Parts are cheap/easy to find and they're easy to work on because there's not much to them. You can "flatbed" the rustiest of the old timers (< '89)inabout an hour.Older Toyota p/urims match Chevy 1/2 ton rims and you can go up to 31" tires without a lift. Get a pre-96 model so you don't have to deal with NYS emissions.

Mcdour, thank you very much for that advice.

And to CBR, there aren't any Talons that are stock AWD and turbos? I have a buddy at work that has one right now, can't say for sure if it's stock, but I could've swore it was.

I drove a little beater 93 Talon before I bought my Camaro. It was a 5-speed manual. FWD not AWD, but I only paid $800 for it and sold it for $1000. Those 1.8s are reliable and willget you great gas mileage. The TSIs are nice but if you're going for cheap get a 2.0 AWD non-turbo.
There is no AWD NA's. If its AWD its the turbo4g63. There are also FWD 4g63s, And then the 1.8. Later on in the second gen they had the 420A that was a neon based engine that only came with FWD and use's a diffrent trany then the 4g63.

Never said there wasnt a turbo talon or a awd talon. I said there is no AWD NONE TURBO TALON. There was a FWD turbo 4g63, AWD turbo 4g63, FWD none turbo 4g63 veary rare to see, and the FWD 1.8L. Then in 1995 to 2000 you had the FWD 420a neon bassed engine and the turbo 4g63. Sorry for the miss understanding.

I live in Winona, Mn and the winters here are rough as hell. I drove my camaro last winter and it was terrible. I'm also looking at beater cars but i really dont want to spend over 500 dollars. you think i should go with a pickup? or a 4 bangin car?
