Choosing a winter car
This is a bit off topic, but I've been thinking recently and while I've done it in the past the last thing I want to do is attempt to sling around in the ice and snow in my T/A. It's not that it can't be done, I just don't want to get salt and all the crap from the roads on it. I've been looking at a couple cheap beater trucks and am starting to consider some all wheel drive cars. Just looking for any tips as to what brands you think I should go with. I don't care what it looks like or performs like. As long as it starts and is reliable is the main thing, oh and it's relatively cheap. I'd also prefer a manual transmission but it's not a must. Thanks for any suggestions. So far I've come across some little four banger 90'sNissan truck and a turboEagle Talon, anybody know much about these?
that nissan truck will run until the day the world ends lol, i am acutlaly looking at a beater eagle talon also wierd lol also i am looking at a toyota truck to just get me to work and back for the winter. What year nissan and talon r u looking at?
As long as the talon is a TSI its good to go. However if its high milage or has any problems walk away. For the nissan its the 2.4L or the KA24 the same engine thats in the older 240sx. If your on the east coast or mid west i have a Nissan truck im thinking about selling. Its a 3.0L V6 with 5speed. The truck is in fair shape and has a brand new set of 31 10.50 MT's on it off road bumber and a 4K winch. The truck runs great and the 4x4 gets you out of just about any thing. The body is a little rugh but it is a good running truck and still blows cold AC and has a full CD player and radio.
Not that far to be truth full. I drive from Fort Brag NC to Home every 2 weeks. Just over 200 miles and the truck does great on gas a hell of a lot better than my TA any way lol
I drove a little beater 93 Talon before I bought my Camaro. It was a 5-speed manual. FWD not AWD, but I only paid $800 for it and sold it for $1000. Those 1.8s are reliable and willget you great gas mileage. The TSIs are nice but if you're going for cheap get a 2.0 AWD non-turbo.
