Default changing just the tranny mount- risks cautions?

i am going to change the motor mounts too, but being thats it soo cold and the jerking is getting worse i want to swap out the tranny mount. if the motor mounts are worn and i go put a stiff new tranny mount would that cause any trouble? mess up any seals? damage anything?

Not really
but if u wait too long it might prematurely wear out the new trans mount.. always keep in mind whenever you build up something or replace only part of something, the trouble always goes to the weakest link

so in this case the weakest link will be the motor mounts since i`ll be changing the tranny mount?

motor mounts dont break they get old and worn out. you might say sloppy. lol. what kind of trany mount? put her in. motor mounts are a pita to change, tranny mount is a breeze.

I wouldn't do the tranny mount, its easy to do, yeah, but I had a poly one with stock engine mounts and I had a vibration on the rear end or something and it caused the gearbox tail shaft housing to snap which really was a PITA to sort out!!

i dont think the poly mount broke your tail. all the poly mount does is allow you to feel the vibration, not cause it.

if your using a poly mount your gona feel more vibration. mine was so bad i switched it back to a stock one. didnt hurt my trany. i cant guarantee that your trany wont break, i will say that a poly mount will not in itself break the trany. if you have a weak spot it may. i can say i drove mine for 600 miles before i changed back to stock and did not break anything. heck if your really worried about it get a stock one for like 10-15 bucks and put it in there.

The reason you were getting vibration is because the poly mount is a lower profile than your stock mount. It causes the u-joints to go out of alignment and have a nasty vibration. The cure: Stick some washers under the mount. That's what I had to do with mine. And even still, I drove the car for too long before I did the "washer" trick and it caused my reverse gear to get shredded. I no longer have reverse that works right. It kicks itself out of gear and grinds like a **** when I try to hold it in gear.

Refer to the post I just posted above this one. If you change the mount to a poly mount, make sure you make up the height difference with some washers. That will fix the issue.
