Car got hit...
The policy is under my dad's name, and he was almost positive we had full coverage on it. According to the claims office, I only had liability. No comprehensive, no collision. I tried calling my insurance agent, but I just got her voicemail.
At last, some good news in this debacle! I posted in the facebook Ford Interns group about what happened, and it turned out that it was another intern who was riding his motorcycle and a dog ran in front of him, so he hit my car instead of the dog. I'm just really glad he's taking responsibility for it, it makes me feel much better about the whole situation.
Oh, and I was going to say good deal! Man, people can be real jerks. And it's not the insurance companies fault, you got the coverage you, or dad, were paying for. Collision is the expensive part of the coverage. It covers your car if you are at fault, as well as for hit & run damage.
I know full well what comprehensive is. The issue is that my dad thought we were paying for comprehensive, but our insurance company is saying that no, we didn't have it, so there was some sort of breakdown in communication somewhere that is gonna royally screw me.
In the long run, you're not getting screwed. Comprehensive is fire-wind-theft coverage. Collision is what you don't have. But, you would have been paying more for your premium all this while, and your deductible most likely would have been in the $500 range (maybe $250 if you're lucky). Add up what the extra premium for collision would have been costing you, plus the deductible, and I think you're going to find it's going to cost you less to fix this out of your own pocket.
I agree with 69. For the damage you have you don't want to go through insurance anyways. Your looking at around $750 all said and done. Now if you go through insurance you have to pay your deductible. Now if you have a $1000 deductible your paying it all yourself plus now you have a claim on your insurance. Now your rate goes up for the next 3 years. The lower the deductable the less out of your pocket initially but in the long run you pay more.
