Default car died, batt not charging! new alt and batt..

Ok, so I got my alternator rebuilt last year, and I bought a brand new battery too at the same time. I've been driving for the past year with no problems at all until yesterday.. The CEL came on and I noticed the batt meter was in the red. as I kept driving it kept getting more and more in the red, until it finally died out on me.. I brought the batt home, charged it, and re-installed it so that I could drive my car home(too cheap to tow)..
NATURALLY I'm assuming the alternator is to blame, but before I go threw the hassle in taking it out, I was wondering it anyone else had any ideas to whats wrong?? Thanks in advance to any and all feedback!

forgot to mention, the battery meter in the dash isn't completely dead, but about in the middle of the red part.. if that helps clarify?

Who rebuilt the alternator? I would suspect the alternator crapped out over a year old battery going bad, but stranger things than that can happen. The battery is a lot easier to remove, so I would probably have that load tested first to be sure.

Charge up the battery and take the car to your local O'reilly's or Advance auto and have them test the charging system. It is free and it will let you know what is going on.

I would take it back to who rebuilt it. Not much hassle -- only three bolts and two electrical connections once you have the belt off…

Be sure to disconnect ground from your battery first!
