Camaro body work/ painting

Oh nice, did you pick the shop? You need to call the insurance company, complain profusely with the same amount of detail about the shoddy work they did, and DEMAND it gets fixed the right way....somewhere else.

Yea I picked that shop. I thought they would do it right because they said they would fix it right no matter what the insurance had but I quickly realized that they were full of it. After they tried to tell me the day after I gave it to them that there was preexisting damage exactly where it was hit. Straightened that out with pictures. They are supposedly fixing it right now I didnt take it. But I also called the insurance and they are trying to tell me that the shop isnt one of theirs but it is. So this is gonna be fun.

Federal law states that you have the right to have your vehicle repaired by any shop that you want not the shops that your insurance Co. wants you to go to. The insurance companies have prefered shops for quality and ease of paperwork reasons. Now if you are not satisfied with the work you can refuse the work and get it done right. The fuel door on both of my cars is flush and fits the contours of the body perfectly, yours should too. Check out my build log link in my sig and you can see how mine looks.
Alot of shops will not do much finish work in the jambs since most people dont really care about how the jambs look so long as they are reasonable and painted. This is not everyone. You should be able to see a spot welds here and there, that is how the car is built. As for the overspray, that is just poor masking or poor blending and should have been fixed well before you ever seen the car.

I dont know what Im supposed to do for new paint. Could someone with more knowledge about how to take care of a freshly painted car let me know the do's and dont's. For instance can I wash my car? Should I use a car cover, Should the paint be in direct sunlight? Also when it rains should there be streaks across the paint and take some rubbing to remove? Streaks as in water lines but very hard to remove. I know the paint is soft when its fresh but does that mean it will discolor or be ruined by any kind of dirt sitting on it for any amount of time. Just wondering, what are the signs of a bad paint. Wax after 90 days right? Thanks for anyone that can answer these questions because no one around here knows for sure, I get contradictory answers everywhere.

I would hope the shop used a base/clear paint like the factory is, and not a single stage. You can wet sand and power buff the clear the next day after a fresh paint. It's a good idea to wait 30-60 days before "sealing" the surface with any kind of wax, as you want to give time for the solvents to fully cure. Check with the paint manufacturer, as that time frame can differ between brands. Any surface stains that you might have now will polish/buff out. For the car cover, as long as it's a soft breathable type, it'll be fine. Be careful if the car is outside though, as the wind may want to try and move the cover around, which could scuff the surface of the paint.
