Default Brick yard 400

I have seen some red 2002 ss cars with the brick yard 400 decal on the doors. Nascar and indy never used a camaro pacecar in those years so what were they?

The keyword here is PACE CAR. The cars you're referring to as pace cars were track support vehicles. They were used in the driver introductions and other race events. There was 45 of these cars used in 2001.

These were among the first 35th Anniversary LE's built and were shipped to the track in Indianapolis where they were decaled and numbered. After the race most were distributed through the dealer system.

Wouldn't it be a 2002 if it is a 35th anniversary car?

Yes, the car is a 2002, but was used at the August 2001 race because the 2001 model year production was stopped early in the spring that year. These cars were built in May of 01 and were some of the first 2002 Camaros built. If you look closely at the door graphic, it shows the date of the race it was used at.

A similar situation happen when the 30th Anniversary Camaro was used in 1996.

one could put the kits on any year car ,it does not give them anymore value ,though some think so i have seen guys selling the 94 version an takeing a long time to sell them i would not mind one with Daytona 500 but another car got that not the camaro 4th gens ,an could do without the date .though it looks cooler on 2002 ,i like smaller decals, all cars have a date from the year before like my 99 says 98 my 95 say 94 on the door
