Best way to store my Trans Am.
I'm going to need to store my T/A for about three months at first and then possibly even longer after that. It will be garaged for most of the time it's being stored but it will occasionally be moved outside for a short while. I plan to pick upacustom fit car cover, but other than that don't really know what else I should prepare for. It may be driven occasionally, I'm really not sure, but my main worry is mice. We live next to some cornfields and I'm afraid the little bastards will get into the wiring or something else. Other than the car cover are there any other precautions I should take?
Do not "shrinkwrap" your car- its fine for boats but isn't designed for cars- it would almost certainly damage your paint, cause mold inside the wrap since it is never completely airtight, and cause more damage upon removal. A marine finish is totally different and a lot tougher than the paint you would find on your car.Plus you have to heat it with a heat gun which would probably damage your paint upon installation as well. As usual Spartan talks using his *** instead of his mouth- hahaha good stuff as usual Spartan.
If you have to drive the carsometimes it is going to be hard toput the car fully into storage- which would involve fogging the cylinders and of courseremoving the battery, as well as putting the carup on jackstands and removing the wheels. Put something to remove moisture from the car- there are many different chemicalproducts that work for months- use several. Mothballs work to keep mice out, but they also make your car smell like mothballs afterward. A good car cover that fits well isa huge benifit- from dust\dirt\scratches inside and from the elements etc.outside. Make sure it breathes well too to avoid mildew buildupunderneath the cover-Iwouldremove it occasionally if it is outside and wash both the car andcover well, as dirt will build up inside the cover and should be washed out. Of course keeping itinside is prefferable, but we aren't all so lucky unfortunetly.
Good luck keeping the T\A nice.

thers aguy near me that stores his trans am every winter and it looks liek all he does is put it up on jackstands puts plastic bags around the brake discs and has a real nice car cover on it...and it just sits next to his house outside...i see it every summer cuz its my g/f's dads frinds car and it seems to stay real nice...its a ragtop too idk fi that woulds change anything..
Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely give some of them a go. The only problem is I can't put it up on jack stands, it'll be in my dad's garage and it has to be able to be moved in and out when he needs it out of the way. It may be as long as half a year before I get to so much as see it again so I'll have to see if my dad will air out the car cover, suppose I could trade him that for allowing him some joyrides in it when I'm gone.
If you're worried about mice and insects getting in there you should pick up an ultrasonic pest deterrent. Just plug it in, and point it at your car, no pest will go near it. In addition to a car cover you should also pick up some moisture absorbing packs and put those inside, good way to avoid mold and odor.
