Default Bad wheel hop.

Just wondering if the colder weather may contribute to wheel hop. I've noticed that whenit breaks loose in a straight line that lately it starts hopping extremely violently, enough to throw the shifter out of my hand. It seems that it does this more so when it's colder out. I'm running some Firestone Firehawks, still a decent amount of tread, although they are wearing. Just wondered if the tires are contracting and getting harder, making them skip on the surface of the road.

yeah heat makes tires grip better (hence warming them before runs on the strip)

But also figure track / ground temp will make a difference in this aswell

Very cold weather will cause the friction coefficient of tires to drop (usually). However; less traction should only induce wheel spin. Wheel hop is usually due to poorly set up suspension, worn parts, bad motor or transmission mounts,or more torque that the suspension was designed to handle. Check your mounts, suspension bushings, shock absorber, control arms, and the torque arm in particular.
