Okay i know it seems like a big challenge but i love my 96 z28 but i would much rather it be a 6 spd and i was wondering if anyone had tryed or looked into switching a tranny and all of the required things. Or perhaps if they have a transion kit? Thanks

ohh you mean manual! haha yeah it can be done if you know a lot about how it works. i did it to my daily driver honda, it was cake but those cars are seriously built like lego kits. And i switched it back to the automatic cuz 5speed blew.

But no there is no mainstream 'transition kit'.. ur best luck is craigslist+ebay or a parts store like summit or jegs.. ull need the trans, flywheel, clutch kit. master cylinder, pedals, shifter, clutch hydraulic linkage, and mounts is all the big stuff i think.. there will be many "hidden costs" (fluids, hardware, work, time, bits, pieces) along with the other small specific parts (wiring, starters, mounts, brackets, reservoirs etc) so keep them in mind. if this car isnt a daily driver and you believe you are a competent mechanic the job should be feasible

 

These cars are built around the power train. In order to convert the car to manual you will need the computer. wiring and the trans. There is alot more to this then there used to be. It would be much better to simply live with what you got, have a manual shift package installed in the trans you have or get a M6 car.

I wrote up a quote a while back to help some understand what was involved. At the time I quoted replacing the wiring harnesses. I am not an HP tune expert but I think you could Tune your PCM to not do anything with the trans and ignore the start up test parmeters that would set a code. Note! the doner car prices are for a T-5 not a T56. A T-56 that works good and just the pedal (like some that was doing an old school convertion would need) runs about $1500. most low miles wrecked cars they sell the whole drive line as a package. The only cheap way of doing this is to find someone with an unfinish project. I only paid 1500 for a complete 93 Lt/6 speed. I plan on fixing it but I have thought about the 6 speed in my 67

That Meatyshells gets around. I remember reading his engine swap thread as part of my research before I did mine. He ended up trashing the Spec clutch, I think he was one of the reason I got the Centerforce clutch.
