Default Another alternator question.

New to the forums, searched for alternator threads but couldn't find what I was after.

So I have a 96 3.8L, and I need to replace the alternator. It's for sure the alternator, that much I know. I've got another alternator ready to throw in, just having some trouble getting the old one out. I know the basics, as I've changed alternators in other cars before. I'm just having trouble getting the automatic tensioner or whatever its called, AC Idler maybe? to come out. It's the thing that SHOULD pivot on it's arm so that I can get to the lowest bolt holding in the alternator.

Anyone else have this problem? If I could get this thing to pivot out of the way I'd be all set. Any help is MUCH appreciated.

its the tensioner and you prob need more than just a ratchet it pretty hard to move get a pipe on the ratchet and you should have no problem make sure your going towards the pass side of the car

You have 2 options here. First is like BC said above just pry it out of the way and get to the bolt. This means you need some one to help you.
Second, just remove the bolt holding the tensioner in place and remove it. Now it is out of the way and the alternator will come out easy.
You did remember to take the belt off first right?
