try a little experiment before changing your oil.

check the dipstick and verify that it is full.

then, drain your oil and remove the filter and pour the oil from the filter into the same bucket.

then, put on the new filter, add your 5 quarts, and pour the old oil into the empty oil bottles.

Did you notice that you didn't pour 5 quarts? It's more like 4 1/2 or even less . But, did you notice the dipstick showed full before you began?????? Hmm, interesting, isn't it? You put in more than you took out yet the dipstick showed full.

Unless you have an aftermarket large capacity oil pan I wouldn't lose a wink of sleep.

^ The difference is because the oil filter is still holding on to a lot of oil that won't pour out. You can't pour and drain a filter dry like when it's new.
Did you also notice a weight difference between the new filter and the "drained" one?
