Alternator/pulley in a V8
hey guys im new and im about to install new pulleys in my car... since i dont have an impact/compressor the boys at Advance Auto said id just need to disconnect the alternator with my new pullys and they'd go ahead and connect them, but id have to do the crankshaft by myself. apparently (sicne the directions are vague) im suppose to buy 3 different belts or whatever for the car and im just wondering if anybody knows what i need to do to disconnect the alt and crankshaft and how the serpentine and belts work. thanks!
The questions you're asking are kinda confusing, maybe I'm not quite picking up on this right, but lets see if I can give you some direction...
I think you're trying to say that you need to remove the serpentine belt and remove the pulleys from the alternator as well as the crankshaft, is this correct? The car's serpentine belt comes off pretty easy, there's a diagram of how the belt is supposed to look on the pulleys as well as the direction and location of the tensioner. If you loosen the tensioner as the diagram shows the belt will come loose and will slide right off all of the pulleys. From there all you need to do is remove the bolts that hold the pulleys on and you should be good to go.

hmm im just confused how many belts are there? this thing is sittinghere telling me there are like 3 i need to order and idk if 1 is my serpentine or not... (underdrive pulley system)
hm now im confused... like the instructions say:
1. Remove alternator pulley nut with impact socket on impact swivel. Remove belt and pulley
2. Remove three harmonic balancer bolts
3. Note direction of cast arrow on factory balencer adn remove
4. Install underdrive pulley on crank shaft with countersink in same position as cast arrow. Bolt holes will not align if not properly oreinted.
5. Reinstall factory balancer onto hub of underdrive crank pulley/ Insure cast arrow aligns with coutnersink. Install bolts using Loctite 242 or equivalent. Torque to 40-60 ft/lbs
6. Install underdrive alternator pulley. A 1/2" drive impact with 70-80psi is required to tighten alternator nut.
7. Install Gates belt K060598 for part no. 847601. Install Gates belt K060594 for part no. 847600 and install Dayco 5060590 for part no. 847602.
it's that last step that confuses me since i thought there was only 1 belt...

That's just saying if you got such and such kit, use this size belt. It gives three sizes for three different pulley arrangements/kits.

I'm guessing you don't know what kit it is... Get a piece of string, wrap it around like the belt would go, then measure how long it is. Get a belt that is at the most, how long you measured. Perhaps one that is half an inch to an inch less than what you measure would work.
i found the number they didnt have the one iin stock that i needed but they said i could take one thats a little bigger and the tensioner would fix it if i tighten it more. but yeah i asked if smaller would be better and they said no ( a little bit of argueing went on and then i jsut gave in)
