the only sticker with a number on there, that I didn't take off , doesn't seem like a part number because when I google it, it doesn't come up with anything. I just hope they don't charge a restocking fee since it didn't fit. my main issue is that the serp. belt doesn't line up right with the new alternator.

Even though it's not necessarily the right way, bolt up the ones that you can. And then try pushing, pulling, what have you and if it feels solid, let it be. The one on my LT1 is only held in with the upper and lower bolts. I have the extra brace that goes on the back, but at the time I didn't know what it was so left it off. Haven't had trouble with movement of the alternator by itself and loctite on the bolts makes sure it won't vibrate loose.

I hear what you are saying, it was pretty solid with just the 2 out of 3 bolts but the main issue is how it messes up how the serp. belt lays on the water pump pulley when the car is running.

Are you able to get a pic of how it's sitting on the water pump?

here is how far it is off...

I was in the parts store earlier today and we found the problem (of which I will post a picture of tomorrow). There was a small section where a depression was supposed to have been machined in, and was not. They had to call the manufacturer and have them overnight one with the depression machined in it because ALL the local ones had the same issue.

And something as stupid as that is easy to overlook. I'm sure that same style alternator, using the slightly different case half, is used in a different model car as well. I'll bet whoever is rebuilding those (or was that "new") may have gotten the cases mixed up because at first glance, it looks the same.

ur probably right, well I guess that's something all 3.4l Camaro owners need to be on the lookout for if they are doing the alternator. that small piece of metal turned a 5 min job into a 3 day wait for the manufacturer to send the right part.
