As long as they don't run a mirror under the car your fine. They will rarely stick the sniffer in on a obd2 car. I need to get my car tuned to remove the air and egr.

SOCOM- yeah a couple hours after the first couple hours in tear down. Also depend how far you wanna go. Along with a heads and cam I would replace the oil pump and timing chain and gears. What ever book you read on time to do it at least double it for when you do it. It really is a toss up on wether to pull the motor. A cam swap will be easier to do with a head swap since you won't have to deal with messing with changing valve springs under the cowl.

I think you were quoted high on a heads/cam swap honestly. I'd say the norm around here with labor is 2500 if you're using your heads and getting them ported or buying another set, having the work done and then bolting them on

if you're going to start making decent power, you're going to want to start setting some money aside for a 12bolt or 9 inch, you're gonna destroy that 10 bolt pretty quickly with 400+whp

What kind of 12 bolt? Because when i hear 12 bolt, i think of the chevy 1 ton axles, an option for my xj upgrades. But thats not gonna work on the camaro obviously.

Two options for a 12 bolt, Strange or Moser

Strange 12 bolt
Strange Engineering manufacturer of high performance driveline and suspension components in the Drag Racing market

Moser 12 bolt
Moser Engineering - 12 Bolt Moser Complete Bolt In Assembly - Complete Rear End Assemblies

Moser also makes a 9in, while Strange offers their S60 which is their version of the Dana 60. If you're planning on staying in the 400hp range and it isn't going to see every weekend track time, the 12 bolt should be more than enough. Each axle has it's advantages and disadvantages.

He's right, I have a 9 inch under my car, love it to death, but its also because I drag race.

XJ you say? I had a full width xj(d60/sterling 10.5) I sold a couple years ago, had a ton of fun with that thing.

Alright sweet thanks guys. I do plan on gettin to the track almost every weekend during the summer. Ive always liked the Moser, forgot all about them.

Ya my XJ is runnin stock axles and 33s for now. The whole build is waiting on new axle decisions.

Ive heard the 9" is great for everything, is it better or worse than the 12 bolt?

Quick run down on the Advantages and Disadvantages:

Stock 7.5" 10 bolt: Weak

12 bolt: 8.875" ring gear. This makes it stronger than the 7.5. Realitively lightweight compared to the 9 in and S60. Downfall is C-clips but these can be eliminated. Has been known to break on bolt on LS engines with slicks and enough clutch dumps.

9in: 9" ring gear. Nearly indestructible. Removable center section makes it easy to swap between gear ratios. Doesn't use c-clips to retain the axles. It's pinion depth makes it harder to turn so you'll lose a few rear wheel power. Heavish.

S60: Uses a 9.75" ring gear. Indestructible. I believe they don't use c-clips. Really the only downfall is weight. The S60 is heavier compared to the rest, but I haven't see one break yet drag racing. Will take every bit of abuse you can throw at it.

Personally, if you're going to be racing a lot, go with the 9in or the S60. You won't be disappointed either way.
