Air Filter
i ran mine with a standard fram filter as i bought the lid as i broke my stock one but the filter was ok and i was dowm on cash, made a bit of difference, but prob not feelable
Anyway, my last service i did I got a K&N, and slp smooth bellow, that made it much better, do the free throttle body coolant by-pass too! only problem is i had to screw the slp intake down at the back to contact the filter as the lid fit is not perfect

It is a bad idea to run it bypassed if you drive the car in freezing weather, as the coolant helps to prevent the throttle blade from freezing in a stuck position!
There's plenty of controversy on whether or not bypassing the line would even do anything. Considering how fast the incoming air is passing through the throttle body, the coolant wouldn't stand a chance of heating up the incoming air. Not to mention that fast moving air already has a chilling effect.
I can see bypassing the coolant line for simplifying things. But as a power booster, I ain't buying it.
i live in UK and blade doesnt stick and its like 0 degree C. As for horsepower, i dont think it does anything, but might as well do it cause its free. Only cause over a time there is a bit of heat soak into the throttle body thus it is genearlly warmer.
I have cut out the entire underside of the air filter housing so you can see right to the floor when you take the lid off and filter out so the intake air is always freezing cold, as is the throttle body, maf and intake manifold. Just figure cold air = better and no coolant to heat it up. But your right prob actually does nothing ??

this is a good read for some free cheap performance mods and the ram air thing is what i have, coupled with the k&N and slp intake and bellow, is well worth the cash. bang for buck i'd say its worth it

Oh yeah you can feel the difference and you will possibly feel the difference in your wallet. I put a K&N cold air intake on my ride and it really increases throttle response and and your acceleration, not to mention I also gained 2MPG on the highway going about 60-65mph.

think the filter will still be worth it on its own, also my K&N is 1 million miles guaranteed, ans washable and an wash and oil kit last ages too. So dont need to change the air filter every 10-20K like i used to do.
zstalls says it better on his V6 and you do defo get better MPG, on the cruise, its the other way if you have a lead foot
