Accident: Gap where front of hood meets top of spoiler, no rain issue of shorting?
Hi
A much older person in his late 70s ran into me at reverse at about 20 mph
At first, I thought he had a stroke and pushed the wrong pedal
He took off, but I got most of his alpha numeric plate number.... I'm hoping for the best
The impact caused the right half side of my front hood/top of spoiler to Turn Inward at a 45 degree angle like a dog ear crease and There's now a Gap where front of my 4th gen hood meets top of spoiler,
I just want to confirm that there's no Rain or Car Wash issue of shorting the engine bay, please if someone can help me.
There's already a space / lip area --where the lip doesn't seem to allow any water to touch the battery area
Also the nose cone is as you know on a 4th gen pointing downward allowing for rain / water runoff
Thankfully, the lights compartment area hasn't been impacted and is flush with the rest of the body---
the closest electrical thing-- and it's again separated by a manufacturing gap-- is what seems to be the window washer liquid bay, as pictured
I took a water bottle and spilled it liberally down (to simulate rain or car wash water) my hood and as you can see there is some water gathering.....
I'm going to use acetone to wipe off the paint transfer
or Meguiars Compound with a microfiber cloth
Any help would be much appreciated...I kind of waited till the weekend when most people would be in a good mood, because I'm worrying about this--- there's no way I can afford a replacment hood at the moment...
The guy who hit my car knew what he was doing, even though it's a felony to hit and run, he moved left and right while driving and drove a car that there are 100000s in CAlifornia on the road
part 2 of 2
Once when I was thinking about washing the engine professionally or even DIY, my freelance mobile mechanic friend who's not available told me that these areas are protected by seals that unless you're pouring water by buckets directly over the battery and engine ...are safe
as an interesting anecdote, I had a friend I visted in the Bronx, NY many, many years ago he had his BMW near a fire hydrant in the summer and kids were playing with it....
you know what you see in films like the Godfather?
so that shorted his Beemer, I think there may have been also a flood under his car or the opened summertime fire hydrant sprayed water in all different directions
*Update:
My freelance mobile mechanic of many yrs luckily became available and looked at my hood/spoiler border
It has a canyon he said, a valley/ a separation area, etc. that if the water gathers there from rain or from a car wash, it won't be able to get to any electrical parts
I'm so grateful. Thanks, hopefully someone can benefit from this post...
