Default 98 overheating

My 98 v6 camaro suddenly started overheating today and I can't figure out what the problem is. The first thought was that the thermostat might be stuck closed, but I checked it and it's fine. When I turned on the heater, it is blowing room temperature air and is not getting hot. The car heats up quickly (hitting 240 or 250 within 2 or 3 miles) and will stall if it gets too hot, which I'm assuming is a safety feature (to keep me from blowing it up!) Any thoughts? I saw other threads about overheating, but they didn't seem to be the exact same issue. Really appreciate any input on this one!

Thanks!

In the process of flushing everything right now. The heater is running a little warmer now and the car is staying cooler, but the water keeps bubbling out. My boyfriend suggested vapor lock? Is that an option?

New update: took off the radiator cap and there was a lot of pressure. There didn't seem to be any water inside though. Went to fill it and it kind of sucked in all the water we put in. The reservoir is still full, however. Could it be a cap issue?

yep thats sorta what i was thinking. when the coolant level gets so low the heater will not put our heat. fill er up and check for leaks and check the oil and see it looks milky colored. have you noticed any puddles under where the car is parked in the last week?
