ok so here is my next idea. so what im going to do is instead of going and getting a different engine to convert it to an old school rig i can just take the intake and heads off and get different ones that are from a carburated v6 and a 5 or 6 speed manual tranny from a newer camaro that way i still have the same mounting places but i don't have to worry about a computer. then all i would need to do is re wire a few things. ive re-wired a car before once. its take about 2 weekends when your not worring about stupid little things. would that work? it sounds like it would. cuz ive had people tell me that you can take a fuel injected engine and turn it into a old school by just changing the intake and heads??????

Where you going to put the distributer? The block nor the cam are designed to take one.

if you want to go old school find an 010 350 block and go with it. They are almost bullet proof and you can get lots of horses out of them depending on what parts you use for the build.

You are right about one thing. These computer systems are all or nothing. One thing we did not talk about was the body control module. It controls most of the other systems in the car. First thing the body control module will do is look for the cars computer. If it does not see it most of the stuff in the car will not work. So to get rid of the computer you will have to learn more about the computer then you will if you just return it to stock.

In the long term and maybe even the short run the simplest and cheaspest thing to do is return the car to stock or "near stock". All the parts are around, you will not have to make parts. Everything will fit you can find out how things go together with manuals and pictures.

Now that you have pulled the motor you can see what a jigsaw puzzel the engine comparment is. You change one piece and you can mess everything up. Since your car was not complete to start with and you are new to this just getting the car back stock will be a challange and you will learn a lot. People part these cars out all the time on Craigs list. Someone who is parting out a car cause of a blown motor will likely sell you all the parts off the blown motor for cheap. This would also allow you to pull the part off yourself and see how they go. If you do not have the original computer that will also need to be addressed. You can not even "Just switch it" without the correct process. As I said before if you could find a wrecked doner car that ran this becomes a simple project. Heck you may even find something you could put your front end on. There is a 95 LT1, 6 speed, clean title less then 5 miles from my house that needs a front clip. I can get it for $1800. (Which is about what the high miles drive line is worth) It sounds like a lot but when the car is done its a $4500 car.

Step one for you should be to tear down your motor and see whats what. I assume you never heard the engine run. I would not take anyones word that the bearings are good. The base 3.8 motor are very common. Just about any 3.8 (even FWD) will work you just will need all the Camaro parts that bolt to it.

If you go this route, Start a new thread call it "returned from the dead" or something like that and I seriously doubt you will run into to anything one of us has not delt with already.

Olds 307 or Small Block Chevy 307? Chevy 307 is a standard Small block. Olds is not.
You will need a transmission.

ok i haven't posted in a while. mainly due to work and i just turned 21 this weekend so i didn't have anytime to work on the car let alone post. but i did buy a chevy 350 with a turbo 350 tranny. i thought it was a great deal cuz all i had to do was trade my ford 400 for it and 150 on top. but unlucky and stupid me didn't check out the engine enough before i traded it and when i got it home i found out that it had about 1 1/2 gallons of water in it. so that kind of pissed me off. but luckily it was from just sitting in the rain so the damage shouldn't be that bad. max i will probably have to do is tear it apart hone out the cylinders and the pistons and machine the heads. luckily my friend has a complete shop in his garage and i can get it done for really cheap or just plain free. and the only problem with the tranny is that it needs a torque converter. so all in all it still might have been a good deal, idk yet but i probably will later today. oh and does anyone in here live in Arizona near phoenix that might have the driver seat and passenger seat. i cant find any stock ones anywhere.....
