97 ss coolant fans

Default 97 ss coolant fans

hey guys brand new to the site.love camaros. i have a bone stock 97 ss. just insalled slp manual fan switch but only 1 fan works. (low speed doesn't work) the fan is good relays are good (replaced all 3) fan does't come on with ac either what gives? any help would be great thanx

The fans in your car use a fairly complicated circuit using three relays, and a simple on-off switch is not going to work right. These relays are controlled by the PCM. For low speed the relays connect the fans in a series circuit with each fan getting only 6 Volts and so run at 1/2 speed. At high speed the PCM operates the relays to connect the fans in a parallel circuit and each fan now gets 12 Volts, and the fans run at high speed.

I would think something is wrong if the SLP manual switch isn't running it on low speed. My SLP switch works with both low and high speeds.
