Default 97 Camaro 3.8

I'm trying to help my friend out.. He has a 97 3.8, and he's having a problem with his transmission; He puts it in park it goes into park fine, he puts it in reverse and it's like nutral he puts it in nutral and it drives, he puts it in drive and it drives. He's missing reverse, and I was just wondering what all could be the problem?

I told him it might be the linkage, but I wanted to get another idea, or second opionin. Any help would be great thanks in advance.

Linkage just as you suggested or the Throttle body. There are valves and switches in the throttle body that control the tranny's shifting. If the switches or soloniods are bad you will be missing gears. I dont have the manual for the Tranny maybe Liberty can scan a few pages of the flowchart for the trans for you to help you out.
