Okay I am still not sure what I am doing the guy finally emailed me back and still don't understand how to tell what gears it has. I have found a couple more at junk yards That I am going to try to call tomorrow and see what they say. I just don't want to spend 100.00 on mine I need new axle bearings and seals and new front seal they are leaking and you can here the bearings which worries me the axles are worn. I just want to upgrade to atleast 3.42 gears and disc bakes and posi. I found some 99 and 00 firebirds to call and see what they are all about.

ya im at the point of debating whether or not i shoulda ordered all my parts or a preassemble third member so far ive spent 1400 on gears locker bearings etc my axles were saveable so i figured iwould just rebuild third member with what i wanted and decided to stick with drum brakes cause i just replaced everything in my rear brakes

If you're looking to upgrade to 3.42 you're going to have to pull it off of a car that came with a T56 (maybe a Y87 optioned V6, but that could be 3.23, I'm not 100% on that). Be careful when pulling a rear end, they made two different ones depending on whether you had TCS or not. You need to match that with what your car has.
