Default 95 parking brake trouble

I recently changed my Parking brake handle from a stock from my 95 to a leather one from a 97, but it didn't fit right so I had to cut some of the metal handle part shorter so it would slide all the wy on. But now the button keeps popping out and it doesn't always lock up when I pull on it, is there something I forgot to connect in the workings of it or did cutting it mess it up? Or could I just retention the cable and fix it? I have no idea and any help would be very appreciated!

there must be a stop on the handle for the button so it stays in. it may be that you cut it off. look at the end of the old one and at the end of the new one and see if they look the same.

I believe the arms are different from year to year. I don't know why they don't work from year to year, but when I put one in from a car that was wrecked, it didn't fit from the 93 it came from, to the 95 it was supposed to go in. Go figure.

I checked to see if I cut anything important off and there's nothing on it, but I'm just going toplay it safe and get the 97 parking brake from the car I pulled the handle from its kinda important to have working =D
