Default 6speed tranny

I am in the market for a z-28 and I am trying to decide if the 6 speed with the 1st ot 4th shift is a pain or can it be defeated? I have not driven a 6 speed yet so I am not sure how it goes from one shift patern to the next. It will be a summer car mainly for cruising. I have scanned the forums and don't see it discussed. I have sold my previous summer car and I am going crazy with out a replacement so any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

The link you posted said it will work for 96 and older. I am looking at 1998 and up, is there a workaround for these later models?

They make a CAGS eliminator that you plug in to the connector and it eliminates it.
