Default 5th Gens effect on 4th Gens prices?

I have been looking for a 99 or above V6 5speed. I was thinking of getting one this summer. It seems to me the prices of these car is still very high. I looked at one the guy want almost 4K for one with 150K miles on it. I checked it out and found oil in the antifreeze and the clutch slipped in 5th. This is on a lot. Guy said he would drop the price to $3400.

I can buy almost any car sold in 99 with 150K for less then that. Not to mention that thing needed a head gasket and a clutch. If that was a 99 Mustang with V6 5 speed 1K, 1200 tops.

Is it the fact that you can not buy Camaros that is holding the price up? There are 2 engineers at work that have 2002 Camaros. One of them is on his second 2002. The first one he put almost 200K on before he traded in on one that had 34K on it. Both of these guys plan on getting 2009's. I know there will be some 4th gens traded in on 5th Gens do you guys think it will effect the 4 gens value right away? I know the 4th gen killed the 3rd gens value but it took a few years.

If you really want a great deal on a 4th gen, wait until the 6th gens come out. Seriously. See what the price difference is for a C4 and a C5.

The prices will continue to drop as the cars get older until they hit the 20 years or so mark. With them being the "last" fbodies built it has kept the prices up a bit, though.

Is there any particular reason you want a 99+? You could be able to get a 96-97 for cheaper because it's an "older" looking body style and an older car. They both have the same motor even...

I don't really see it as an issue. Next generation models can have an effect on previous models when it comes out immediately following. There is going to be at least a 7 year gap between the last Gen 4 and the new Camaro by the time it comes out. And natural depreciation has already been working on the values of the current models anyway. Think about it logically....hmmmm....do I buy that $7k Camaro, or that new $35k Camaro? Decisions....decisions!

To be honest with ya, that is extreamly high. I bought my 99 with 100K on it, the car was mint with the exception of a minor dent in the hood and front bumper. I paid only$1000. for it. The girl I bought it from put$2500. into it with 500 miles of selling it to me. Sounds too good to be true, she gave me all the documents to prove it. What I am getting at is wait and look around. Dont buy from a dealer, they will rape you. Buy from a private owner due to the fact that right now its a buyers market. The economy sucks so bad, people are looking to unlaod things just to pay their bills. So dont be hesitant to wheel and deal, I'm not saying offer someone $20. for something there asking $200 for. Just know how to play the game. Dont feel bad about; sorry to say, being an ***. If they wont budge, and you know you are still willing to pay their asking price, just leave them your # and say "if you change your mind, you can call me." Not with an attitude, but with conviction. I buy alot of things off CraigsList. I have yet to pay asking price for anything. Reason being is I will never see that person again, so if I am a little pushy but not stepping over the line and explain why my reason is for offering them what I have to offer, 99% of the time I get what I want. Sellers always ask high and go low. Remember that.

4k for a v6 with 150k miles is too much. I just bought a 99 Z with 78k miles for $5400.
