Default 40K Mile Tune Up Suggestions?

Hi Guys,

Still new around this forum so if this post is in the wrong place, please cut me some slack. My baby just passed 40K miles and I have never really done anything major to the car except new rear transaxle gasket and fluid change (made it shift 10 times better even though it's a stick) and new air conditioning compressor.

The car sat for five years before I bought it and had 900 miles on it when I bought it in 2006 in MA and that's when the new AC was done. Since then I moved to Dallas, TX and it has seen mostly perfect weather since 2008. Car has no rust.

I am wondering what major maintenance you guys would suggest at this point. It needs new brake pads for sure, new plugs and wires, and maybe a new serpentine belt... Any suggestions you have would really help me out.

Best,

Julian

Default 40,000 miles, what do I need to tune up?

Change fluids, the serpentine belt should be ok, unless it has aged from time, it shouldn't be worn out. My car has 86,000 miles on it with original everything. Even the front brakes are original. (2000 Z28) Only things changed so far is filters, and fluids.

ok but what if I want to really stay on top of things? Also, the car is ten years old now, so i'm wondering if things can start to dry up or get cruddy?

Best,

Julian

so this car has 10 year old spark plugs in it? if so i would change em. check the plug wires for any cracking or signs of heat damage. look over all the hoses for signs of drying or cracking. have it scanned for codes for piece of mind.
