Angry 200k miles finally caught up with her.....now what

I havnt had a problem with my car, until yesterday i was driving home when i felt the car lose power looked at the dash only to see the "check gauges" light come on. still had oil pressure, looked at temp gauge didnt see the needle? looked again to see it standing straight up over 260.......heater on full blast windows down but no heat rolled up to the stop sign 1 block from my house and she was shuttering like crazy almost didnt have enough power to get moving again. then i started to feel heat coming out of the heater and the temp gauge dropped almost instantly back down to around 200?

Long story short. Im pretty sure ive blown a head gasket, beacuse i have no antifreeze and i just replaced the intake gaskets last winter. i have no coolant in the oil tho. just wondering what you guys think

Any codes? If so, get it scanned and post them.

With your temp problem, sure sounds like you need to use some Super Flush in your coolant system -- sounds like your system is plugged up, and replace your thermostat, which may not be functioning correctly -- cheap and easy to do. Check to ensure no hoses burst or came off, and ensure that your engine cooling fan still functions.

Well if it's burning coolant, then you'll need some head gaskets, intake gaskets, and maybe new heads. You might as well have the block bored and completely overhauled if you're going to do this. Especially if you have 200xxx miles

Do you see any areas on the engine where coolant has been leaking out? Keeping your car and engine clean is a good way to spot external issues...

no there are not coolant leaks. i know ive been burning some for awhile but it was slow ive always kept the coolant full but now it is gone way fast.

Im thinking about picking up a used 3.8 and tearing it down and replacing the gaskets maybe port and polish the intake/heads and swapping that in

^ Have you also verified that your engine cooling fans operate properly? I had the fan motor fail and seize up from rust/stiction mine multiple times on my old '95...
