2002 ASR issue
Got a 2002 Anniversary Edition. When the car gets to 73 MPH
the ASR kicks in and slows the car down
, LOW TRAC light comes on and everything. Kind of annoying. Before I take this to the dealer to get checked out and spend $400 on a $20 part; would anyone have any suggestions that I can look at? It's not rev limiting per-say it will do it in any gear at any RPM just at 73 MPH. If I turn ASR off the car runs great. My thought is there has to be a sensor or two on the rear axle to detect wheel spin and this is the most likely culprit but I"m only guessing and have no idea exactly what to look for.
Thanks Much

wow, that is weird. I think that you are on the right track as the ASR has to detect slip before it activates. However, using that logic, what can cause that discrepancy when doing 73mph? Assuming that the sensors are OK (worst case scenario) I can only think of either a bad axle or a bad trigger (what actuates the sensors). Either way, before you go to the stealer and waste your money, lift the car up and take a good look down there. Chances are you will find what is out of place.
Note that I am assuming that there have been no mods to the ECM of your car, which would open another set of possibilities.
good luck

Thanks Pete, that may just be the case as the Front and Back have 245's and 225's I wouldn't have thought that the ASR would use the wheel speed from all four wheels but if that is the case then this would definitely cause the problem with different wheel speeds and it wouldn't manifest it self until higher overall speeds.
Thanks again
Thanks again
The higher the speed the higher the difference in wheel RPM between front and back. Traction control looks at wheel speed difference between front to back to determine if wheel spin is happening. The limited slip diff takes care of the difference in speed between the two rear wheels. In some cars, such as all wheel drive and front drive, traction control applies the brakes to the spinning wheels, but in your car the engine power is decreased, as it assumes both drive wheels are spinning.
