2000 Z Transmission Filter came with a little cap?
It came with the filter, the gasket, and this little cap that i have no idea about. whats it for? i didnt see anything on the filter that came out of it that resembles it nor where the filter attaches to in the trans. it does fit on the end of the tube that sticks up into the transmission but beyond that im at a loss. ive already buttoned it bacak up but the engine and trans are still out so it would be easy for me to go back in there if need be.

Ok good that's what I was thinking but just wanted to make sure. The hole on the top kind of threw me off like if it is to protect it from getting stuff in it a hole there wouldn't help much lol

If you turn it a little is there a hole in it? It sure looks like the seal to me.
Jump to 3:10. The seal a filter should be a matched set. New seals should always be used because filter neck sizes can vary slightly.

If the new filter leaks with the old seal it will ruin you trans pretty quickly. What happens is the seal will suck air, the air mixes with the trans fluid and you end up with a foam. Transmission line pressure should be upwards of 300 PSI. Foam does not compress well and a small air leak at that filter will cut your pressure in haft.
I can still remember my trans teacher preaching to us how fast your newly rebuilt transmission would last if you get this seal wrong.
