Default 1996 camaro . do I need to drop the motor

So I will try and make this short . I need a new wiring harness in my car . dam chipmunks chewed it near the ecm. no power was to the car . I had it looked at and I was told dont try and resplice the mess. SO I got another harness . Uncut for my 1996 3.8 very hard to find uncut ! So without the car in front of me do you guys know If I have to drop the motor down to change the motor harness to get to the tranny . Or is there a easy way at this !

i think you can do it without pulling motor or trans,,, wont be easy, it would be easier to do it if you dropped the engine and trans a bit, i dont think you would have to drop it all the way just enough to make access a tad user friendly.

It can be done but you will have to be under and over the car to get it done. I would just drop the engine a little as Craby said and do it that way. It sounds like more work but I believe it will take far less time.

I just went through the process of changing the entire engine harness on my 93 Lt1 while it is in the car. I think the easiest way to do it is tor start at the PCM and peal back the old harness while you install the new. Just do it one connector at a time. There If I remember right there are to harness mount bolted to the trans. You can unclip them they do not need to be unbolted. Getting the wire routed over the tranny was the hardest part for me.

You should grab the shop manual there are a lot of routing pics in there. I made a poster for myself. I am done now but I think I can gone hang it on the wall

My Lt1 had the one on the drivers side but I think I rememeber the 3800 having one either in the back of the head or on the trans on the passanger side also but that was 4 years ago.
