1995 console removal - I got stuck
I decided to take out the center console of my 1995 6-speed LT1. The hinge at the back is broken, the rubber around the parking break is falling off, and a piece of plastic chipped off (I got lucky and found it). It would be very awkward to fix all of these in place things even if it wasn't below zero in the garage, and I'm also just looking to kill some time. It seemed like an easy enough job, I removed the 3 bolts holding in the main piece, and the bolt holding in the piece under the radio, but I can't seem to get it out. I can't get it over the parking break without removing the piece under the radio (the cassette holder), but it appears to be fused to the main piece. I got out my trusty Haynes repair manual, but it appears to show me a 98 automatic console. I can't find a guide to help me take out this particular center console. What's the secret to getting it out? Pictures would be amazing, if anybody has some. Thanks!

There's 2 bolts in the arm rest and you'll have to remove the peice that's around the radio. It's been a few months since I've done it but that should be what your missing. Also there's a bolt in the cassette holder.

are you repairing or replacing if replacing just break it lol but the best way i found is to put both the seat backs all the way down pull up the parking brake as far as possible lift the console from the back and pull it over the pass seat you want to remove at an angle like the front of the console in between 9 and 10 oclock

I'm repairing. I did manage to get it off just now. The shift indicator panel was the first piece I took off, and I did pull the parking break up just a little bit higher today. The secret was to recline both seats as far back as they would go, then turn the whole thing sideways. Then I got to spend a few minutes out in the cold trying to unplug the small light and lighter. Thanks for all the help! I hope I can get it back in now.

putting it back in is always easier. i have to repair mine as well. chipped it pulling the e brake up. plus I'm planing on painting everything black. the lighter is the true P.I.T.A. best of luck with the repairs.

It was a bit easier putting it back, mostly because the console was warm and more flexible. I might have put a very small crack in it pulling it out while it was so cold, but I fixed it up a lot (and it wouldn't have gotten done in warmer weather, I'd be too busy driving the car to stop and work on it).
I did the exact same thing, and I have no idea how. I pulled on the e break and it felt like the cable wasn't attatched, it went back too far and chipped the plastic. I put it back down and it was normal again.
Thanks again for all the help! This place makes it so much easier to do these small afternoon projects.
