'00 Security light
about 3 days ago I went out to start my car. everything would turn on and function as normal, but when i went to turn it over, nothing happened. I noticed my security light was on and opened the manual. The manual (as well as many of the other threads) said that it was probably because my key was dirty/worn out. So I cleaned my key, and tried it again but nothing happened. It's really hit or miss if it decides to turn over or not, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. I plugged it in and no codes came up saying that something was wrong.
Anyone have a clue why this is happening? I would try my other key, but it is at the opposite end of the state, and I'm not completely convinced that it is the key that is causing the problem. I also notice that the alarm light flashes much quicker than normal when I open the door.

It could be the chip in the key is going bad or has gone bad. If you have an ohm meter, you can ohm out the chip to see if you get a reading. It could also be the lock cylinder itself.
We had a new key made and it solved our problem.
