Default "Check Gauge" light on dash

I just bought my first 2002 z28, a convertible. After a few days the "check gauge" light came on. Any input on what this typically is related to. Can I fix this myself? Just trying to do some homework before I take the car in to get looked at. thanks!

Did it blink some, or did it just come on? If it was blinking, it's usually a "random misfire". If you have an AutoZone near you, they scan it for free. They can give you a code, and we can better diagnose your problem.

Thanks, it is on "full" not blinking. It is also low on gas and I've seen some of those other posting related to that issue. I have an autozone within a few miles and will get the code. Thanks

Almost empty will light the check gages lite, but should not light the check engine lamp.

Thanks, it is definitely only the "gauges" light and not the "engine" light.

Thanks Pete. I misread what he said. Reading is fundamental. [&:]

Stan, you fail!

The only time that my "check guage" light has come on is when I'm low on gas...of course that usually means I'm sitting in a parking lot cussing at myself for letting my car get that low because now it won't start...
