Default trunk latch?

so i have a 88 camaro, that has been sitting behind the garage for about 7 years or so, and for the past few weeks i replaced the brakes, spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor, and about a week before i parked it in the garage, and i realize that the trunk motor wont pull the hatch all the way fully closed. any ideas.

its probably the gears in the motor, my friends formula firebird had the same problem and the PLASTIC gears inside the motor were ate all to hell.

I just replaced the trunk pull-down motor on my own camaro yesterday. not a terribly hard job, just make sure to pay attention to the details...

From my experience, I'd suggest picking one up from the local junk yard (same gen camaros and firebirds work just fine) to replace your old one.
**Keep in mind that some were sold with a switch that allowed it to be raised and lowered by just holding the button down longer. It may or may not be a feature availible on yours.

One problem with these motors is that the housing and guides are plastic, greatly reducing the life of the part as well as making it much easier to bust. Top Down Solutions sells a metal housing unit for the motor designed to resist breaking if the trunk is slammed too hard by accident. I'm about to order one myself.

As a continuation of your question I'd like to ask if the hatches on a '91 z28 are adjustable at all. I'm having trouble getting the latch to line up with the catch...
I've already tried sliding the whole hatch up closer to the car, and it looks like it might be further adjustable but I'm not sure.

bdobraj- if the motor is moving than yea its the plastic stuff, no motor check the very first fuse under the dash.

liv- yes the are adjustable. there are 4 bolts right above the rear seats under the trim, loosen and move. as well the lastch itself is adjustable.

before you go replacing all of that check your relay. It is located right beneath the latch. It looks like a little black box.
