Trouble adjusting the TPS
I have rebuilt my 305 and I am trying to get it to idle correctly but the TPS sensor is reading .80 volts instead of the correct .50 at idle. Is there any way to fix this. There seems to be no room to adjust it to get the proper voltage. I had the use the throttle screw to raise idle. Is this correct?
Is it a tuned port? I know that the one on mine is non-adjustable. The only way to get it to read lower volts is to back off the throttle screw, which may make it idle too low. Other then that, The only thing I can think of is trying to bend the finger that is connected to the throttle and sensor back to get the right voltage.
Yes, it is a TPI. 91 Camaro Z's use Speed Density System. I've read that the voltage is a bit higher on the speed density system. If I increase the idle by turning the screw the voltage goes higher on the TPS because changes the position of the throttle blade. I Could not get my car to idle at the minimum idle speed after changing the camshaft.
Lol I see. I have the same car. rebuilt it and put a cam in it, and had the same prob. Then I had some more rocker arm studs pull out of the heads 700 miles down the road, so I had to rebuild the top end again. When I had it all apart again I replaced the idle air control valve and it idled like a champ. You might want to look into that. I think I got one from O'Reillys for around 20 bux
dont forget that a cam will require it to idle higer depending on how much larger you went. here is an article that may help you. the tps is a bit down from the top http://www.thirdgen.org/tpimod2
