Default tranny question??

ok so i've searched around here and haven't found much. I have an 83 Berlinetta with a carbed 305, and a 700R-4 Tranny which is leaking like hell, does not go into overdrive, and burnt clutches. I have a 200R-4 sitting at the machine shop i work at and was thinking of putting that in to get around while i rebuild the 700R-4 which to my understanding is a better tranny? Or should i rebuild the 200R-4 and then put it in. The 200R-4 that i have came off of a 454 V8 that was in an old Pontiac Bonneville, which im not sure of the year, but i figured its not that big of an age gap because the tranny is not electronic. Any ideas what i should do?

Default RE: tranny question??

Any idea how long it was hooked up to, and used on the 454? Do you know the history of it, like if it was built up any beefier than stock or not? In stock form, the 2004R wouldn't live an extremely long life behind a big block.
Oh, and physically the 200 is a direct swap for the turbo 350, which is about 4" shorter than the 700. You would need to get a longer driveshaft to use the 200.
