Default Tach inop!!

Did a search and couldn't find any good fixes. My prob with tach is when I first start up the car, the tach moves from all the way right to about 1000 rpm, then once the car starts, it slams all the way right again and stays there until i start car again. Just had car tuned up also with wires. Any suggestions will be appreciated!!!

did you do the tune yourself? Does it act strange or just pin the needle? Check all your connections to your distributor. the harness connections. sounds like its loose.

When car is running, the needle pegs full right and doesn't move until I recrank the car. Did this b4 tune and still does after tune/wires.

The tach on my 91 reads a consistant double of what is true. After doing more checking, and reading different posts here, it's obvious that highly inaccurate tach issues are a common problem. IMO, it hasn't been determined with certainty whether it's caused by the distributor or the tach itself. But, I just scored a complete gauge cluster out of a 91 on fleabay for only $28. So after I swap it out, I'll know which was bad, and if it isn't the tach I'll be pissed!

My 91 does the same thing, have replaced the cap, rotor, plugs, wires, still the same it drops down when I shut the car off but pegs out to the right when it is started and running?? Man I don't want to get into the console, is that the last resort? Seems like a common problem so whats the fix? TAS[sm=dontgetit.gif]
