OK but isn't putting in a three speed taking a step backward? Your giving up the low first gear and the overdrive not to mention the lockup converter...

I'm thinking about putting a 700R4 in my '83 Doolie. Better gas milage, killer first gear for pulling the Fuel Dragster
WTF is a "Doolie"???

so i can use a trans from a 70's model truck and everything will bolt up?
If you're thinking of going this route...you still need to find yourself another trans, so why not just find another 700 R4?

I worked in a body shop right in front of Spartan Engine Development. You might have seen that name on a few top fuel dragster and among others. One of them was a local guy. John Shoemaker. Maybe you heard of him also. Drove the Budwiser Eagle later called the American Eagle. Spartan Engines also works with of Riolo racing engines. So I have been around and know Bob, Dave and John. Bob's brother Gene would paint the letters and grilles and such on the funny cars and the helmets and I would do the clear work on the helmets.
Oh and buy the way, I know what a dragster is. I know what a dually is. I just don't know what a Doolie is
