Default questions about 88 formula firebird

ok i got a few questions pertaining to a project car of a friend of mine.

He has a 1988 formula firebird with a tuned port 305.

he is wanting to convert a carbed 350 of his into a tuned port 350 and drop it into his firebird.

we heard from a mechanic saying that the waterjackets on the 305 heads and 350 block would not line up, but just talked to summit racing and they said it would all line up except wed need a upgrade at cam and adjustment on the ECU.

we also talked to jegs and they didnt say much other than that he would have to run race fuel through it with the high compression that it would have.

i know some of you on here have converted a 350 carbed to a 350 TPI and was wandering if you could help us with some advice on here as to what to do . thanks a lot guys.

All external TPI parts will transfer over to the 350. Why do you need the 305 heads?? All that is needed for the swap is remove the Carb intake transfer TPI Parts & wiring, add a knock sensor, 22# FI a new 350 Chip for the ECM and that is the short story. So do some more reseach before tearing the engines apart.

Also, I think race fuel is a little over the top for that setup.....

Why do you want to go carbed? Do you just like old school? Or do you not like messing with all the electronics? I say this because I was in the same boat as you are when I couldn't get my tpi 305 working right. Once I got it working right, the motor actually surprised me. It is basically stock with a mild cam, bored .030, heater hose bypass on the TB, and cut muffler. If you do go carbed 350 though, you will have a hell of a compression ratio, I'm guessin somewhere around 11:1 depending on the pistons you put in, and you will have to run a complete ignition setup and feul delivery. The fuel pump you have now is running between 35-45 psi, the psi needed for carbs is around 4-5. You can either go mechanical, which don't seem to keep up at higher rpms, or electric. either way, you would probably be better off getting a scan tool to get your 305 tpi running right (if you have any problems with it?) and then throw a 350 under your tpi. And yes, like black z said, dif cam, heads, injectors, sensors, and prom. Probably about the same price, maybe a little cheaper, then putting a carbed 350 on, unless you have one laying around.
