Default performance on a budget

i have an 85 camaro with a 305 with a 4 barrel carb im looking to get more horsepower without breaking the bank this is my first project car so im new at this stuff any ideas

Good luck...With the LG4 you do not have much to work with. Best advice save money and just enjoy what you have.

welcome to the smog era. You can't downplay that

headers and a free flowing exhaust

change the gear ratio

after that, it's money time because the engine must go or get a different vehicle

The best I think you can do with your 305 is a air filter, headers, straight piped exhaust with slp cats and hp muffler.

sure it will, it just takes time and money

is there a reason you are asking about a 454 vs another SBC ?

i now it would be a lot of money and time but i do have long term goals and i can save money was just wondering what i could squeeze out of my 305 for the time being i dont know what sbc means i dont know much about engines i know the basics though and 454 is the biggest engine that i know of thats carburated been thinking about maybe a 350.

SBC stands for Small Block Chevy, like your 305 and a number of other c.i. sizes. BBC stands for Big Block Chevy, like the 454 you're thinking about.
