Has the car ever been treated to a tune up? I also have a 91 with the 305. It had a sputtery, jerky idle, but it didn't have stalling issues. I replaced the plugs, wires, cap & rotor. I was curious about the cause, so I tested the engine after replacing each component. The engine didn't smooth out until I replaced the cap & rotor. Your problemscould be from one of many other different things...clogged fuel filter, fuel pump on it's way out, bad pressure regulator.... If it looks like it's never received an ignition tune up, then that and a new fuel filter to start with certainly won't be a waste of time or money.
