maxed out engine
can anyone tell me how fast a stock 305 carbed standard with a 2:77 (mabe) would go before it red lines or runs out of power. i put on some extras and i know it will go faster but i dont wanna risk loosing my license finding out. i just wanna find out if itll go 120 or 140 or 150 if i can dream.

RE: maxed out engine
I had my carbed 84 Z28 with a 2.77 up to 145 and it still had room to breath but there was Freaking cars in front of me! I know this to be accurate because I had Autometer gauges including tach and speedo and it was calibrated. I did some simple bolt on like intake and exhaust, tuned my q-jet, igntion, etc.

IMO a 3:73 is a really good gear for a street car, it leaves hard and you can still cruise on the highway.
4:10 are more for race but still streetable, but not really for an everyday driver. It's really all about what you want.

well i had a 86 z28 carburated 305 auto and it topped at about 135 and had no more but keep in mind it has 170000 miles and wasnt the nicest.. but my 350 TPI crate motor in my 85 will shut a 145 speedometer down and hit trip
