Default Ls1 in a 92 rs with five speed

I have a 92 camaro with a 305 tbi and a five speed manual. I have a friend who's cousin customizes hot rods and classic cars/ mini trucks. He is selling me a 500 mile ls1 5.3 liter for 350 $. This will be the first third gen he has put this motor into, but I wanted to know if anyone knew if the 5 speed in my car would work with the Ls motor until I can get the six speed or not? Anyone tried this I could use the thoughts bc this will happen soon and it will take about a week to drop it in and tune it, thanks

The tranny does not care what spins it so long as it gets spun. What matters here more is the bellhousing, Clutch and flywheel. If you get all that to match and work with the tranny then you will be golden. I am not sure what bellhousings will work. Oh and the 5.3 is not an LS1 the LS1 engine is the 346 CID 5.7L engine found in the Corvette and Camaro. The 5.3 is an LS4 with Iron block and Aluminum heads. It is a great engine. 325 CID most people call them a 327 since it is close to the classic engine. It is a good price I would jump on it.

GM started putting the "world class" T5 trans in the Camaro in 1988. Before that was the weaker "non-world class" version.
Your w.c. T5 is rated at 300 h.p. So I wouldn't go beating the crap out of it if you want it to live long and prosper.

I'm not looking to race the car, just give it some ***** and get it show ready. My racing days are over, this is my fourth camaro and this is the one I actually have money to invest in and restore plus some. Just as long as the tranny will hold up to make drivable is all I need for now to save a little. I have a buddy who has a six speed out of a 2002 z28 it's brand new he wants 1100 for it. To high? I could search for better pricing, or do u believe the automatic would work better, thoughts?

the wrecking yards around here will sell the engine and tranny for that much and we are talking the LS1 with the 4L60E or 6sp. You can get a remaned on for that price so I would look around more.

Over all price for an ls swap should be around where you think? Take in mind if my tranny will work, I'll use it for now to save. And I'm getting the ls4 for $350, I have the money for that I just need to know how much for everything else so I can get this thing done. One more question, until I can find out exactly what this car has in it as of right now, is there any reason u should be beating 92/93 gt mustangs that have 225 hp? Even a 96 v6 camaro with 230 hp? The camaro is heavier than that of a third gen that makes some sense but how can a supposed 170 hp stock 5.0 rs beat a stock 5.0 gt mustang with 225 hp?
