Default Leaking Valve Covers

I have a 83 Z28 Camaro. The valve covers have leaked for ever. I am sick of having to replace the gaskets because it is so hard to tear it down to that step. I have tried several types of valve cover gaskets both rubber and cork. I am wondering what to do. This is angering me because it seams to me that I am having to change the gaskets about every 2 years. Any suggestions would be appriciated. Thankyou

I can think ofthree things that might make your valve covers leak excessively. First thing is maybe the covers a warped, or maybe you aren't pulling enough vaccum on the crankcase via the pcv valve and it is pushing oil past the gasket or maybe your oil drains in the head could be clogged letting oil puddle around the gaskets. These are just some quick ideas of things you could check.

Also check to make sure that you did not counter sink the bolt holes.Take off the valve covers and make sure the sealing surface is smooth and that the holes are not counter sunk. If so use a hammer and something flat to smoot them out. Most of the time the covers are torqued down to hard and it counter sinks the mounting points. They only need to be tight enough to seal.
