How Can I improve Performance!!!

I have an 1985 Camaro Z/28 with 305 carb. what can i do to improve horse power of the speed itself of my car? But i don't want to go over a big budget..... any suggestions??

headers and y-pipe, cat back exhaust, better carb and intake. all of those combined can get you a decent 40-50 hp for under $1000
