headers for 305 iroc 1986
True, plus why headers on the 305? I could see if it just was rebuilt and complete exhaust is in order, but on an existing 305 it seems like a hassle. You'll need collectors to y-pipe welded in, plus if you thought the engine bay was tight before, look out after headers are in, not to mention you'll need to heat wrap all your sensor wires or they'll melt.
im running hedman shorties on my 383 now. i got them and the y-pipe as it was the only header and y-pipe combo without emissions tubes. the only thing that sucks is the y-pipe is 2.5 inch. i just need it now to have it running and will up the size in a year or so, but it would be great for a 305. and you will definatly notice a power increase
btw, the hedmans didnt have the great of fitment though. the metal heater line for the heater core cant stay bolted to the frame rail, and the brake lines and steering shaft are very close on the driver side. definatly needs valve cover removal and jacking up that side the engine will help

Hedman 68478's are the best budget price headers for our cars. They cost around $330 and are constructed from 14 gauge tubing (most are 16 or 18 gauge) with 3/8" thick flanges (most are 5/16 or 1/4"), and they have a thermal ceramic coating.
The Y pipe can easily be modified with a 3" section rather than the 2.5" section, but it's not worth it on your 305. 68478's with the matching Y pipe modified with a 3" section will support more horsepower than most street 3rd gens will ever have. A lot of people will argue that the 2.25" pipes off the collectors is restrictive, but two 2.25" pipes into a single 3" pipe is a good combination for up to 450-500hp.
Stay away from cheap headers like Flowtech, Jegs, Summit, and low end Hedmans. You will have more headaches than they are worth.
